INSPIRED BY A LEGACY OF SERVICE

Join me as I reflect on the profound influence of the St Vincent de Paul Society on my life and ministry, a journey rooted in family and parish and community.

What do you know about St Vincent de Paul?

August 27th is his Memorial Day on the Catholic Calendar. I love St Vincent de Paul and all who look to him as a patron saint.

What do you know about the 'VINNIES' mission?

A big shout out to all who do religious and social works as members of a parish conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

My earliest experience with the St Vincent de Paul Society was as a young man home from Seminary for the holidays. I was charged with visiting with two of their members the Silverstream Hospital in the Hutt Valley. We gave out portions of friendly Vinnies cheer, magazines, chocolates, and (back in the day) cigarettes!

Would you know it?

I was following in my father's footsteps!

On my first assignment to a parish in 1966, Kilbirnie members brought out archival minutes from way back when teenage Vincent Peter Fitzgibbon - my dad - had begun to record their faith and good works way, way back then as their Kilbirnie Parish Conference Secretary.

Do you have special ways in which you remember St Vincent de Paul?

You are welcome to send them to me to add as comments to develop this webpage.

The Enduring Spirit of St Vincent de Paul

My experience of the St Vincent de Paul Society has been nothing short of inspiring. It's a testament to the power of collective compassion and the enduring impact of individuals dedicated to making a difference. This society, through its tireless efforts, continues to embody the spirit of charity and hope.

"My hope is that you might feel how somehow your parents and church friends have inspired you in your own lives and mission, just as mine have inspired me."
